Success Stories
With the Lewin's Trust, CRESS runs a 'Happy & Healthy Mothers Project' which provides mosquito nets and ‘mama kits’ to expectant mothers. ‘Mama kits’ include medicine and supplements for mothers, as well as necessities for welcoming a baby into their homes.
These women are also enrolled into our Livelihood Project which provides agricultural, business and financial training to empower members to build sustainable, self-sufficient lives.

The group pictured above is the Iyete Happy Mothers group in Imvepi. They are preparing their plot to transplant tomatoes and sukumawiki (a collard green). Here, they are digging water harvesting trenches to reduce surface runoff of, improve water infiltration, prevent soil erosion, and conserve moisture for vegetables production.
This is a Climate Smart Agricultural practice because it helps farmers to mange excess rainfall while conserving soil moisture during prolonged dry spell.
Climate resilient agricultural practices are especially important for rural communities where access to water is limited. People living in these areas are also disproportionately affected by climate change.
