New Trees in Rhino Camp
Heavy Storms and Hail cause distruction in Rhino Camp
When Caroline visited Rhino Camp for the first time in April she was introduced to Mary. Mary was finding life very hard after an accident and Caroline came back hoping to find support for her to purchase a wheelchair and set her back on her feet...
Mary's Wheelchair
"My name is Konga Mary, a South Sudanese Refugee in Rhino Camp Refugee settlement, I had a terrible accident which nearly claimed my life, we were travelling from Rhino Camp to Arua, we were seated outside the body of the vehicle, just after we left Rhino Camp a few minutes, we had a terrible accident where I fell off the vehicle and the vehicle fell on me, I had so much damages on my whole body, so many fractures on my legs, body but by the grace of God, I am recovering slowly but still cannot walk without support.
I am writing to you to express my deepest gratitude for the gift of the wheelchair you provided me. Your generosity has had a great impact on my life, and I cannot thank you enough for this incredible gift. May God bless you and continue to use you to support the suffering Refugees in Northern Uganda
Before receiving the wheelchair, I faced numerous challenges in my daily life. Simple tasks that most people take for granted, such as moving around the house or going outside, were immensely difficult and exhausting for me. The wheelchair has given me a newfound sense of independence and freedom that I had longed for.
Thanks to your kindness, I can now move around my home with ease, participate in family activities, and enjoy the outdoors again. The wheelchair has not only improved my mobility but also my overall quality of life. I feel more empowered and confident, knowing that I can go about my day without constantly relying on others for assistance.
Your support means more to me than words can adequately express. You have not only provided me with a physical tool but also with hope and encouragement. Your generosity is a reminder that there are compassionate and caring individuals in this world who are willing to make a difference in the lives of others.
Please accept my heartfelt thanks for your kindness and support. I will forever be grateful for the positive change you have brought into my life. May you be blessed abundantly for your generosity and compassion."
Mary's Business
With help from then CRESS Africa team Mary then set up her own shop, this was our first report from Scopas.
"Mama Mary sells soap, sugar, local food staff, like small fish, tea leaves, coffee, onions, etc., she sells this at her home, and plans to build a temporary shop there, but the rains are heavy now and you cannot lay bricks. We bought for her wholesale; she now sells at retail prices so he will make some profit which she will inject in the business.
She has 5 children in her care, two sons and 3 daughters, one of the sons is in P.6 and she is struggling to pay him in school, in fact, she used part of the money we took to her to pay his education as the school were about to send him home. One of the other children has dropped out of school. She hopes to raise funds to send him to vocational school for motor vehicle mechanics and driving. The three daughters are in P.5, P.4 and P.3. The daughters are the ones helping her at home, fetch water and help with home chores.
She was very thankful to you for your kindness and generosity. She asked me to extend her sincere appreciation to you and Cress UK."
On their most recent visit Mary's shop they wrote her message to CRESS
"Last month, I started a small-scale business in Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement with the capital provided by CRESS AFRICA. I began selling onions, tomatoes, sugar, tea, and other essentials from a local market stall. With a keen eye for quality and a commitment to fair prices, I quickly earned the trust of my customers.
Just £200 providing a wheel chair and start up funds for her business and stopping her son from being sent home from school for unpaid fees. If you want to make a difference to someone's life through CRESS - get in touch.
