Caroline begins her travels to Uganda
Working in the sunshine
There is something quite exhilarating about travelling alone – somehow the little bit of loneliness and uncertainty adds a little adrenalin to the whole experience.
I think I travelled in a new Kenya Airways Dreamliner – fortunately the plane was pretty empty so I managed to get three seats and could lie down! This was just as well as I got almost no sleep at all – the plane took off at 7pm – so nice food and film – then lie down but mild turbulence most of the way and every so often stopped us dozing. Rather a noisy passenger speaking in a loud voice in the middle of the night further disturbed our sleep – not the most relaxing night.
BUT it was exciting to land as Nairobi very quickly went from dark to light and it is always exciting to be in Africa!
Then another flight to Entebbe only to find there was no hotel taxi but fortunately Patrick the driver I always use was hanging out at the airport so he took me to the posh Lake Victoria Hotel.
The reason for staying here, other than some comfort and ease, is security as I carry out a lot of goods on my own.
So the day took a very easy turn as I felt exhausted – swimming – sunbathing – massage and pedicure (so cheap out here); they remember me when I use places if I have been before – that is the absolute charm of the place.
Caroline in the Lake Vic shop loves it as I once bought a dress from her – she works 7 days a week for nothing but is so cheerful.
Tomorrow I shall start some work and head to Kampala.
I really do not know why more people do not fly out to Uganda in February and enjoy the sun and perhaps take a safari, a great way to get out of the grey.
