Celebrating Success at Gulu Institute of Health Sciences
On 2nd September, CRESS Africa Foundation (CAF) welcomed 50 new households to Rhino Camp.
With the continuous influx of refugees into Rhino Camp, particularly the newly established Zone 8, many households arrived with limited access to livelihood opportunities and basic agricultural inputs. To enhance food security, promote self-reliance, and support household nutrition, CAF organised an emergency distribution of livelihood support inputs to vulnerable households.
Each of the 50 households received a package consisting of:
- Vegetable seeds: Sukumawiki (kale), Okra, and Amaranthus (cereal crop),
- Farming tools: Hoes and forked hoes,
- Watering cans for crop establishment and management.

Thanks to CAF intervention, 50 households have been empowered to start kitchen gardens for food production. The intervention has created an immediate pathway towards food self-reliance for the new arrivals. Distribution of diverse vegetable seeds ensures improved dietary diversity and nutrition. Provision of tools and watering cans will enhance sustainable climate-smart farming practices in the settlement.
