Children who face the challenges that these refugees have faced often need special support to process and overcome their traumatic experiences.
Through our Student Sponsorship Programme, CRESS is able to offer counselling to address students’ mental & emotional wellbeing, so that they can learn coping skills in a safe & supportive environment that foster emotional resilience & academic success.
In February, Children’s Accelerated Trauma Therapy (CATT) counsellors saw 8 students. After a few sessions, all of these children were able to talk about their traumatising experiences, and through different techniques, start to process their distress & engage in their lives more.

“Trauma in children is one of the most serious issues that my school has been battling with for years... I never knew there was a special treatment for such children until I receive this amazing team... I pray that this intervention does not only target the CRESS AFRICA sponsored children but also the rest of my pupils since the need is so huge. I highly welcome any project from your organisation that can transform the lives of these pupils”

‘’Before this special therapy that involves a unique play as I narrate my story, I used to have a distressing thoughts that continuously pop into my mind even if I am reading or attending lessons and most time, I used to isolate myself from other pupils but as the sessions went on, I realised all those bad thoughts are no more. I am happy that I can read, attend lessons without the previous experiences and made more friends with whom we discuss together. So, I am hoping for a better result at the end of this term. I pray that this support continues for the rest of other pupils’’
