Strengthening Refugee Education in Imvepi & Rhino Camp
School Materials Distribution Update
Over the past week, our team has had the privilege of visiting refugee schools in Imvepi and Rhino Camp to distribute essential scholastic materials, school chalk, and red pens to support learning in some of the most underserved classrooms in Uganda’s refugee settlements.
Due to recent funding cuts, many partners who once supported these schools have withdrawn, leaving teachers and learners with significant gaps in resources. Yet, through collective effort and partnership, hope continues to rise.
Over five days (10–14 November 2025), we visited 24 schools, with an enrollment of 27,210 refugee children and supporting both Primary Schools and ECD Centres.
240 boxes of school chalk distributed
24 boxes of Bic red pens provided for exam marking
16 schools supported in Imvepi (8 Primary, 8 ECDs)
8 schools supported in Rhino Camp (4 Primary, 4 ECDs)
Our visits also revealed the deepening crisis in refugee education:
Many teachers have left due to the withdrawal of funding and lack of salaries.
Thousands of children are home because their parents cannot afford PTA fees.
Some learners study under trees due to insufficient classrooms.
Schools lack Bibles and other instructional materials needed for spiritual and academic growth.
Voices from the Refugee Community
Bosco Okurut, Deputy Head Teacher – Annex Primary School, Imvepi: “Thank you, CRESS Africa Foundation… Your support has helped teachers deliver lessons and mark exams. Please come again in 2026.”
Sunday Jemima, Head Caregiver – Eden II ECD, Rhino Camp: “Most partners have left ECDs in the hands of the community. Your support makes a real difference.”
Rev. Jacob Karaba, Pastor & Community Leader, Imvepi: “We are witnessing a real transformation. Your support in discipling children and supplying materials has improved classroom learning. Continued support for vulnerable orphans would impact our community even more.”
Murye Scopas Edward, Discipleship Officer – CRESS Africa Foundation: “Providing chalk and pens is more than giving materials—it is investing in hope, dignity, and the future of every refugee child.”
If you would like to partner, support, or learn more about our work, we welcome your engagement.
