November News: Savings Group Update & Big Give
We are pleased to be able to share our most recent report about the savings groups with you written by Isaac Soro who is the co-ordinator for the Saving Group project.
We are delighted to provide you with an extensive update on the monthly progress of the Village Savings and Loan Association (VSLA) program in the Imvepi and Mijale areas. Our dedicated team has tirelessly worked towards implementing the VSLA program, creating a sustainable platform for financial inclusion and economic empowerment. By combining savings materials with targeted training, close supervision, and teamwork, our aim is to equip individuals with the necessary skills and resources to uplift themselves and their communities.
Together, we are building a robust foundation for the VSLA program, promoting financial resilience, and paving the way for brighter futures. We extend our sincerest appreciation for your continued belief in our mission and the transformative power of economic empowerment in helping refugees become self-reliant.
We successfully conducted comprehensive training sessions for the secretaries of all 72 VSLA groups in Imvepi and Mijale. Participants actively engaged in the sessions, demonstrating enthusiasm and eagerness to apply their new knowledge. Trained members have since mentored others within their groups in VSLA record-keeping, capacity assessment, action auditing, data collection, and reporting.
Utilizing the funds provided by CRESS in August, we procured and distributed savings materials to the remaining 9 VSLA groups. These materials, including savings boxes, record books, and other scholastic items, will significantly enhance their financial management and tracking of savings and loan activities.
We provided printed T-shirts to CBFs for visibility and recognition in the community. We extend our gratitude to the donor for their generous contribution, which has greatly motivated CBFs to work even harder.
Success Stories:
Adede Grace – 39 years old from Morjita Mixed Group:
Before joining the VSLA, Adede Grace had limited knowledge about savings, group leadership, and business. After saving for 4 cycles, she used her savings and profits from businesses started with VSLA loans to build a house for herself. She is grateful to CRESS for making a significant difference in her life and family through the VSLA program.
Below, you see pictures of Grace in front of her newly built home, and with her goats.
Jerisa Monduwa – 38 years old from Paji Kido Mixed Group A:
Before joining the VSLA, Jerisa knew little about the impact of group savings and loans. She was unable to pay her children's school fees and lived in a poorly constructed house. After joining the VSLA, Jerisa started a successful business with loan capital, paying her children's school fees, and building a better house for her family. She thanks CRESS and DOL for bringing the VSLA program to her community.
