Our Savings Groups projects are busy changing lives in Uganda and we are so pleased to have some new stories from the South Sudanese refugees to share with you. These are just 5 out of over 1000 members who are benefitting from the support of the Savings group structure, education and advice given by the Community Business Facilitators (CBFs). These CBFs are locals who visit to teach, encourage and advise the groups. Each facilitator looks after three groups and CRESS has been able to donate bicycles to them so that it is easier to get between groups.

Gubaji Beatrice, Morjita mixed group in Mijale. After joining the agriculture group/savings group, I and my husband used the money we saved for building permanent house. We were relieved from the burden of cutting grass every year for building. I have also opened a small retail business selling pancakes and vegetables in the market to raise more money for continuous savings. Apart from that, my family now have meals 2 or 3 times a day.

Eva Tokosang, (Morjita group) The group savings has helped me a lot in the following ways. I have bought a mattress 4X6, able to pay for treatment bills for my children. Above all, able to have meals at least 2-3 times a day. Other than relying on the beans given by UNHCR.

Akujo Vivian, (God’s will group). The savings project empowered me a lot. I was able to buy mattress 4 X 6, after joining the savings’ group. Bought chickens, able to have three meals per day. With the continued saving, I will do much more than I could have imagine being in the refugee camp.
