Bishop Aba visits UK
Loud Hailer update
On 24th to 27th August the CRESS team in Uganda undertook RUMPS (ReUsable Menstrual PadS ) training in Eden church in Mijale.
The purposes of this RUMPS training were to:
- Enable 104, 14 to 49 year old women to have knowledge of RUMPs and how to use them properly.
- Enable these women to make their own reusable menstrual pads.
- Prevent girls from dropping out of school (an inability to manage their periods while attending school often means missing 4 or 5 days a month from school translating into 11% of school days missed due to menstruation and so poor results follow and the cost of education means often a parents decision to finish schooling their daughter is even easier to make.)
- Improve the economic and financial status of these women and girls. Making their own pads means not spending money on disposable pads. Some may take on making RUMPS as a business opportunity, others may be able to continue their normal work during their menstruation.
- Enabling these women to make their own RUMPs means they will not use old unclean pads that may introduce infections that lead to health problems.
- Be environmentally friendly during periods.
- Enable women to go to social places, work or school without fear of exposed bleeding from menstruation helps with women's mental health.
Now I can...
My name is Sua Betty, 31 years old. I want to thank CRESS-UK and DOL so much for bringing this training to us. This is the first training in my lifetime that has changed me, enables me to make my own RUMPs which keeps me fresh and I can go to the public without fear. I can make more RUMPs and sell for my income. I was not aware of materials for making RUMPS, but now I know.
School Without fear...
My name is Doru Annet, 20 years old. I appreciate all of you for this training. This training has really changed my life. I have learnt how to make RUMPs for myself and cannot longer buy disposable pads from the market. I will now be able to go to school without fear and I feel better, and environment friendly.
