Broad Chalke Primary School raises £185
Have you signed up to join the New Year Challenge 2016 yet? Sarah Sedgwick has set a challenge and is asking you to join her!
In South Sudan, “I Miss You” resounds true with most families because they live in a country where:
** One in seven women die in childbirth
** A girl is three times more likely to die in childbirth than to get to the end of primary school
** There are only 20 qualified midwives to cater for the over 2.5 million women of child bearing age, meaning 1 midwife for every 125,000 women.
In 2014 Sarah’s sister visited South Sudan as part of a Christian mission. Whilst there, she saw for herself the consequences of poor medical care during childbirth. Children without mothers, extended families caring for nephews and nieces and grandchildren. Those children were missing their mothers and their families were missing wives, daughters, sisters and aunts. Imagine the pain, suffering and loss of hundreds of thousands of families who now have a gaping void in their lives; every day starts with “I Miss You…..”
The team at the Sandwich Bank are dedicated to raising funds to support a midwife to work out of the Liwolo Health Clinic, Kajo Keji in South Sudan. The midwife appointed in October 2015 costs approximately $3,000 per year to cover her salary. Sarah would also love to raise extra funds to help with equipment, transport etc,
