Training for CBFs
The bee-keeping training was conducted by an experienced consultant in the field of apiculture. The training took five days, of which three days were purely theory, one day for an outreach visit to a honey processing plant in west Nile region-Arua, and the last day was for practical session on honey harvesting.
The training was attended by the two CRESSUK/DOL agriculture officers; Julious and Yunia. It was very interesting with lots of wonderful ideas.
At the end of the training, we received 2 KTB (Kenya Top Bars) hives, 2 Catcher boxes, 2 smokers, 2 pairs of hand gloves and 2 aprons.
Objectives of the training.
- To equip the agriculture officers with knowledge of training group members on modern bee farming.
- To develop skills of farmers (bee keepers) interested in modern bee keeping using modern bee equipment e.g. KTB hives (Kenya Top Bars) and Langstruth hives.
- To expose individual farmers who would like to begin commercial bee keeping and honey production to venture into the business.
- To educate and inform farmers on the importance of honey and its products.
- Promotion of rural forestation programs to provide honeybees with forage.
We look forward to hearing how the beekeeping businesses develop within the groups.
