Part 7: History of CRESS Clinic
New team in Arua
CRESS has worked with the Diocese of Liwolo as their delivery partners in South Sudan and Uganda since 2017, when the majority of the population fled civil war.
The refugees made their homes in the refugee camps and bush areas of rural Northern Uganda.
The Diocese have the vision to move back to South Sudan, but the UK government and banking system do not allow CRESS to move with them. Many refugees are staying in Uganda and are still in need of support, so a new non-governmental organisation (NGO) has been formed to partner with us called CRESS Africa Foundation Limited. CRESS Africa is an indigenous NGO, with its own board of in-country directors. They have been overseeing and advising the setting up.
The new team has been formed and is developing a programme, improving on the agricultural and savings groups which have worked so well in Imvepi and Mijale.
They will focus on a Livelihood Project which will bring more skills into the community groups once they are established. 20 new groups will be in Rhino Camp. The 72 older groups will continue to be supported. On Caroline’s very recent visit the community there told her they have had no contact from NGOs since the COVID lockdown and very little food aid from UNHCR who are now so stretched with other conflicts around the world. We look forward
to making a difference to lives there.
